Course Information

Understanding what you are expected to learn is important.  Like what kind of giant mutated animals might be lurking on that mysterious island you're about to visit, and how they are able to chew through walls.  [The Killer Shrews, 1959]

The State of California has listed what each student should learn, in each subject, at each grade level. In other words, this is a list of the stuff your teachers are trying to help you to understand. Clicking on the logo above will take you to a page that will give you access to all of the information (called "standards") for each subject you are taking now. For science, however, I have provided a shortcut link in this summary. Click on the text above for the External link opens in new tab or windowscience standards. Note that these are the new standards (NGSS: Next Generation Science Standards) that emphasize reasoning skills and thought processes, just like the Common Core standards for other subjects.

About Your Teacher

After my junior year of high school, I applied to and was accepted to this summer program, and spent 2 months on campus living in a dorm that was over 200 years old .  I took a field course in Colonial Archaeology, digging up the original college building in the center of the Quad.

From Pomona, I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Geology.  My thesis was about seasonal fluctuations in groundwater chemistry at Mt. Baldy, in the San Gabriel Mountains.  I also did coursework in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Ecology.
